The last delegations of the ISF U15 World School Sport Games have now arrived in Belgrade, receiving their credentials ready to commence the Games.
Excitement is now increasing by the hour as the different young athletes dressed in their national teams’ gear are walking around, with the opportunity to meet and exchange a few words before the competition begins.
As Ozgur Solakoglu the ISF Technical Commission coordinator of chess said:
“The importance of this event is to feel the atmosphere all together in the same place at the same time, with different cultures, different religions, different ethnicities, that’s the message we want to send to the world “.
The delegation from team USA arrived at 9 this morning bringing 16 athletes in total, including 12 girls. They will represent their country in karate and swimming.
The Russian Federation’s orienteering team then arrived today at noon after a long trip that lasted for over 24 hours. The Russian delegation will compete with 41 athletes in three different sports: judo; orienteering; and taekwondo.
Uganda’s delegation landed in the afternoon dressed in their bright red and yellow uniforms excited to represent their country, ready to compete in Belgrade with 25 young athletes across 6 different sports. They were shortly after joined by the delegation of Namibia, bringing with them 17 athletes, 9 boys and 8 girls for the athletics and chess competitions.
Amongst the final delegations to arrive were Belarus and Mexico ready to join the rest of the countries for this celebration of school sport. Joining them was the delegation of Romania, in which athletes Hanna Sover & Andrei Pacurar took the time to talk to use, speaking about the event and how “School sport is important for making new friendships”.
Training sessions for the majority of events will begin tomorrow alongside Volleyball with Sunday being the start of its competition programme. The other 13 sports will see student athletes prepare for their competition which will begin from Monday the 13th of September.
